Job Title: Truck Driver/Food Pantry Assistant

Job Description: Drive the box truck to Charlotte and other locations to pick up food - over 50% of time is driving the box truck to various locations for pickups. Unload the truck moving items to the freezer, cooler, or warehouse area depending on the commodity. Make sure all refrigerators, freezers, walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer are stocked and they are maintaining correct temperatures. Ensure that inventory management guidelines are followed, complete with inventory distribution forms. Assist with the distribution of food to clients and help keep the traffic flowing at the drive-through area where clients receive food. Oversee that unacceptable donations are placed in the appropriate recycling container or dumpster. Assist with the daily intake of grocery store donations, weighing, dating and sorting. Ensure that volunteers are checking food for freshness and all items are in date and that food is rotated in the shelves, keeping oldest to the front. Ensure that only commodities unfit for human consumption are staged as offal. Greet all volunteers, making sure they are welcomed, finding a job that suits their skills and abilities. Be friendly and courteous to everyone that comes in for crisis services or to volunteer at Ashure. Assist with Friday and/or Saturday grocery store donations, volunteer groups or special projects as directed by our director of food pantry operations.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid NC Driver's License

  • Clean 5-year driving record

  • No CDL required

  • Prior warehouse experience preferred (sorting/unloading)

  • Able to lift 50 pounds throughout the day

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a forklift

  • Must be able to operate forklift, electric lift, electric pallet jack, drive box truck

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 35 per week, Monday - Thursday 7:15 am - 4:45 pm with a 30 minute lunch break.

Experience:

  • Driving box truck: 1 year (Required)

  • Forklift: 1 year (Required)

  • Warehouse: 1 year (Preferred)

 License/Certification:  Driver's License required; NO CDL required.
