Hardship after Hardship
"It's hard to believe I'll get through this . . ." Liv thought to herself. She never imagined her 70’s would look this way. She came to Ashure Ministry desperate. It all began when she was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease that required dialysis treatments three times a week. To make things easier, she and her husband Gregg decided to get an apartment closer to the dialysis center.
But then, the unexpected struck. Liv's husband, Gregg, passed away suddenly. The grief was overwhelming, but it was only the beginning of her trials. The loss of her husband meant going from two incomes to just one, and the financial strain, on top of her medical costs, was suffocating.
Liv was now behind on her rent and didn't know where she would get help. "Since Gregg passed, it just... feels like everything is falling apart, and I can't keep up," Liv said as she fought back tears sharing her story with Janice, her Ashure Ministry case manager. Janice did her best to comfort her.
As a case manager, Janice wanted to provide a lifeline for Liv out of the crisis she was now facing. "You have been through a lot, and we want to help you get on the other side of this," Janice shared calmly. They worked to develop a strategy to get her caught up on her rent so she wouldn't have to face eviction. Janice also gave Liv a food card to help her avoid additional financial distress during this critical season.
"I won't forget you or your kindness. Thank you for everything," Liv shared with an incredibly grateful heart. She was utterly amazed at the genuine care and compassion Janice and her team extended to her. It was clear to Liv that the ministry wasn’t just about providing material assistance and a strategy; it was about being a source of hope when life's storms raged beyond imagination.
When Liv came through our doors, she was emotionally battered, grief-stricken, and physically strained. She left knowing that through these difficult times, she was not alone. She had a safety net under her - a net built by the loving donors, volunteers, and staff of Ashure Ministry.
