Shining in our June Volunteer Spotlight... Betty Lynch!

Betty Lynch has very quickly become a beloved volunteer at Ashure Ministry.  She started back in 2022. After the passing of her husband, she found the opportunity to volunteer... something she had always wanted to do. When she came to Ashure, she wasn’t sure what she’d find, but she quickly discovered a place filled with great people all working together for a wonderful cause.

Betty comes in at least twice a week.  She does whatever is needed, whether that’s building grocery carts, bagging items, or helping with the cleaning.  Her work ethic is admired by staff and volunteers alike.  One of Betty’s regular duties is bagging produce.  She takes that role very seriously; trying to make sure that only quality food goes out, and that it’s distributed evenly and fairly.

Betty continues to come not only to help people, but also for the feelings that are evoked within her while working for the good of others.  To her, the people she works with are like family, all working together for the common good.  She says, "I enjoy seeing the smiles on the faces of our clients as we provide them with help." She recalls a young mother that came in around Christmas one year.  The young woman had on a halter top and sandals but wasn’t complaining.  She was just so grateful for the cart of food we took out to her as she shared what it meant to her family to have that food for the holidays.  Seeing our clients' reactions inspires Betty to want to do more and at the same time, fills her with a sense of accomplishment.

For Betty, this is the kind of work we are called to do as Christians, and it makes her heart happy to help others the way she can through Ashure.  Betty shares, “Everyone should come volunteer at Ashure at least once or twice to experience this feeling and to see if volunteering is something they might enjoy as well.” The impact Betty has made at Ashure is immense, and we cannot thank her enough for everything she does for this ministry and our community.
