Shining in our June Volunteer Spotlight: Erma Yaussy

For more than two decades, Erma Yaussy and her family have been connected to the mission and ministry of Ashure Ministry. Her journey began through First Presbyterian Church in Newton, where her husband, Rev. Dick Yaussy, faithfully served as pastor. Dick believed deeply in the importance of serving others, a value that became a defining part of the Yaussy family's legacy.

Over the years, multiple members of the Yaussy family have played important roles in supporting the ministry. Dick, their son Dr. Kenneth Yaussy, and daughter-in-law Karyn Yaussy have all served on our Board of Directors. Dick was also instrumental in helping raise the funds needed to construct our current facility and was present at the groundbreaking ceremony. Their commitment to serving the community has left a lasting impact on Ashure Ministry.

For Erma, however, volunteering is something much simpler: serving others and enjoying the friendships she has built along the way.

Today, Erma volunteers on Monday afternoons, primarily helping in the food pantry. Her timing could not be better. Each Monday morning, Ashure Ministry receives food from Second Harvest Food Bank, and much of it must be sorted, bagged, and prepared before it can be distributed throughout the week. Volunteers like Erma help make that possible.

Whether she is bagging produce, organizing food items, or lending a hand wherever needed, Erma's cheerful spirit and willingness to serve are a tremendous blessing. She especially enjoys spending time with fellow volunteers, sharing laughter and conversation while working side by side. And if you are new to volunteering, don't be surprised if Erma greets you with a smile and says, "See you next Monday!"

Erma, your kindness, faithfulness, and servant's heart have blessed Ashure Ministry in countless ways. The support of you and your family has helped shape this ministry for many years, and we are deeply grateful. Thank you for your dedication to serving others and for the legacy of compassion and generosity that you and your family continue to share with our community. God bless you, Erma! 💚
