Shining in our September Volunteer Spotlight... Dora Clemons!
Dora began volunteering about 10 years ago after retiring from teaching. She was looking for something to do and ended up coming to ECCCM, now Ashure Ministry. Here, she feels she has found a new home. Dora has become one of our most faithful volunteers, loving the people she works with, and knowing the work she's doing is making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our area.
Dora comes in every Tuesday and Thursday morning. She arrives around 9:00 and stays for about 2 hours. She never fails to have a friendly smile in place when she comes in the door. She usually bags whatever food items we have that day. Lately, she’s taken on the role of our Bojangle’s bagger. When Bojangles comes in every Tuesday and Thursday, Dora puts on her gloves and dives right in. We like to joke with her that she is probably the only person around who gets tired of seeing Bojangle’s chicken!
Dora says that she is making lots of great memories while volunteering at Ashure. One of her favorites so far is recalling a day during the Christmas season when many of the staff and volunteers dressed up festively and worked to spread some Christmas cheer. She says the people she works with are one of the things that makes her want to come back every time. She also loves the fact that she knows that when she leaves her house to come to Ashure Ministry, she will be accomplishing something good with her day. This ability to give back and contribute to the lives of others is what Dora finds to be most meaningful about volunteering. Dora is a true blessing to this ministry, and we look forward to seeing her for years to come. Thank you, Dora, for all you do for Ashure Ministry and the community we serve!
