Looming Eviction

Aliya sat quietly across from Case Manager Keely, gathering her thoughts before explaining why she had come to Ashure Ministry that day. A registered nurse and mother to a young daughter with autism, Aliya had spent the past two years out of the workforce so she could focus on caring for her child. Recently, however, her life had been turned upside down.

Lately, her husband began struggling with his health. Medications had started causing serious complications, and when doctors abruptly discontinued his prescriptions, it triggered significant mental health challenges. The situation escalated into domestic violence, forcing Aliya to obtain protective orders. As she worked to create a safe and stable environment for herself and her daughter, she discovered how far behind many of their bills had fallen.

Most of the financial transactions had been managed through accounts in her husband’s name, leaving her with limited access and little information about the state of their finances. By the time she began sorting through it all, her rent was past due to the point of a looming eviction notice if it wasn’t paid within the week.

“I’ve asked everyone I could think of for help,” Aliya explained. “Family and friends helped me with what they could, but I just couldn’t pull enough together to cover the rent.” Keely nodded as she listened. “You’ve already taken some really hard steps to protect your family,” she told her. “Let’s see what we can do to help you get through this part, too.”

Together, they worked through the options. Ashure Ministry was able to provide assistance that brought Aliya’s rent up to date, ensuring that they could remain in their home. Keely also made sure she received food from the pantry while she worked to regain stability. Aliya exhaled with relief,

"I can’t tell you what this means,” she said. “I have a job interview

coming up, and I’m ready to get back to work. I just needed a little

help getting through this moment."

“You’ve already shown how strong you are,” Keely replied with a smile. “This is another big step forward.” Aliya left Ashure Ministry that day with groceries, practical resources, and a renewed sense of hope as she began building the next chapter of her life. Because of your support, people facing a sudden crisis can find stability, encouragement, and the help they need to press on.
