Welcoming with Compassion: Giving Support to Dual Immersion Teachers in Catawba County

This year, Ashure Ministry had the incredible opportunity to support six international teachers arriving in Catawba County to teach Spanish in local elementary schools through a dual immersion program funded by Participate.

These dedicated educators have made enormous sacrifices—some leaving behind families, others uprooting families, homes, and careers—to serve in our community. With just $500 in hand and whatever they could fit in a suitcase, they arrived in a new country full of uncertainty and transition. From setting up classrooms to obtaining driver’s licenses, Social Security numbers, and adjusting to a new culture, their first few weeks here have been overwhelming and financially stressful—especially before receiving their first paycheck.

Becoming aware of this need, Ashure Ministry stepped in with aid from one of our food programs to provide tangible support during this critical time. We were able to supply each household with groceries—fresh meats, fruits, vegetables, breads, and canned goods. Teachers with children also received school snacks to help them get through their first six months in a brand-new environment.

The food assistance provided immediate relief—lightening both emotional and financial burdens. One of our compassionate case managers met with these teachers, helping them complete the necessary forms. One teacher, eyes filled with tears, shared, “My family has prayed for angels to take care of me. Thank you.”

This is the heart of Ashure Ministry: being the hands and feet of Jesus, showing up as answers to prayers. Through compassion, food, and community, we’re helping build a bridge for these educators as they begin their journey of shaping young minds in our schools.
