Shining in our April Volunteer Spotlight: Nancy Wall
April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we are honored to highlight one of our longest-serving and very dedicated volunteers, Nancy Wall. Nancy began volunteering nearly fifteen years ago after moving to the area in 2012 and attending First Methodist Church in Conover. Not long after, a speaker from Ashure Ministry, then ECCCM, visited her church to share about the work being done. Nancy remembers thinking, “Hey, I can do that.” She signed up to help—and never stopped.
Nancy spends most of her time in the thrift store, where she comes several days a week to sort through what can feel like mountains of clothing donations. Without volunteers like Nancy, it would be impossible to keep up. She genuinely enjoys opening each bag to see what’s inside and making sure every item is ready for someone who needs it.
Over the years, Nancy has built meaningful friendships with fellow volunteers. A small group of donation sorters often come in together, laughing and talking as they work. They even share a little playful banter with the pantry staff when new bags arrive mid-shift. Still, no matter how much comes in, Nancy and the group usually stay until everything from the day is sorted. It’s no surprise she consistently logs some of the highest volunteer hours each year.
What Nancy values most, however, is being able to help others. She especially enjoys assisting families with children as they find clothes for school and everyday needs. Seeing a child’s face light up when they find the right outfit is a moment that keeps her coming back. Serving others—and serving the Lord—continues to motivate her year after year.
Nancy also believes volunteering is a gift to the volunteer. It gives her a reason to get out, stay active, and feel connected. She’s quick to tell others how rewarding it can be, both for those being served and for those doing the serving.
Nancy, your steady dedication has made a lasting difference. Thank you for the countless hours, the joyful spirit, and the care you bring to Ashure Ministry and the people we serve.
