Shining in our May Volunteer Spotlight

Shining in our May Volunteer Spotlight...

This month, we’re celebrating one of our most dedicated and long-standing volunteers — Ramona Ervin!

Before she ever joined our team, Ramona was already giving from the heart. She used to bring food from her church to donate, quietly supporting from the sidelines. One day while dropping off a donation, she asked a simple question: “Do you need any help?” The answer was a resounding yes. Ramona promised she’d come help after she retired — and true to her word, she did. That was 12 years ago, and she’s been faithfully serving ever since.

These days, Ramona volunteers twice a week in our thrift store, putting in 4 to 5 hours each time. She helps hang, tag, and sort clothing donations — a task that requires serious dedication, considering the huge volume we receive. Ramona loves knowing that the work she does directly helps raise funds for people in need, whether it's helping pay a power bill or covering rent. “It just makes me feel good,” she says

It’s not just the mission that’s kept her coming back. It’s also the friendships she’s formed. Over the years, Ramona has built strong bonds with many fellow volunteers — relationships that go beyond the ministry walls. She fondly recalls conversations with the late Carol Dickinson, someone she describes as having a unique way of seeing the world, the ministry, and everything in between. Carol’s thoughtful perspective left a lasting impression on Ramona, and their talks are memories she treasures.

When asked what makes Ashure Ministry special, Ramona says it’s the spirit of giving that runs through everything we do. To her, Ashure is a branch of God’s work, and she’s grateful to give selflessly — no recognition needed, just the joy of serving.

💙Ramona, we are so thankful for your faithful service, your kind heart, and your commitment to making a difference. Your quiet strength and steady presence are a gift to this Ministry and the community we serve. Here's to many more years of serving together!
