Shining in our November Volunteer Spotlight... Rick Burgess!

It would be tough to imagine life at Ashure Ministry without Rick Burgess. Rick worked for the Catawba County Maintenance Department and became very familiar with the ministry while working on our facilities for the county.  Later, his wife Glenda began working at Ashure Ministry.  Between Rick’s previous experience and his connection through his wife, Rick began volunteering with us after he retired and has now been volunteering for over a decade!

Rick does a lot of the behind-the-scenes work that really helps keep Ashure Ministry going strong. For many years, Rick has been one of the main volunteers at our warehouse.  He helps to unload the trucks, organize pallets in storage, sort through pallets, perform other maintenance tasks, and occasionally even assists with volunteer groups at the warehouse.  He’s usually there several times a month helping with different things.  Rick also serves as the unofficial repairperson of Ashure Ministry. Any time something breaks down and needs fixing, Rick gets the call.  It’s hard to say how many jams Rick has bailed us out of, thanks to his knowledge and the willingness to come whenever he is called.

In 2016, Rick was named the Charlie Bunn Volunteer of the Year. It still means a great deal to him to be honored in such a way. Rick really appreciates that Ashure Ministry gives him a place to give back to the community. He also very much enjoys working with all the other volunteers and staff.  He knows that when he comes in, he will see a lot of smiling faces, not only of the people he works with, but also of the clients we serve. Rick really enjoys doing things that are worthwhile and knowing that his work is helping others. He believes that Ashure Ministry is simply the best place to volunteer.

We appreciate Rick more than he will ever know. Thank you for all you do for Ashure Ministry and the community we serve!
