Shining in our January Volunteer Spotlight: Dale Lawing!
For the past three years, Dale Lawing has been a steady, versatile presence at Ashure Ministry. After hearing many positive things about the Ministry through his church, Concordia Lutheran, Dale decided to come see for himself. What he found was more than a place to volunteer — he found a sense of belonging, meaningful work, and people he genuinely enjoys being around.
Dale typically volunteers twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and he’s always ready to jump in wherever help is needed. Over time, he’s taken on a variety of tasks, from building carts to assisting with day-to-day operations. Recently, however, Dale stepped into a role that turned out to be a perfect fit.
Anyone familiar with our food pantry knows Brooks Nichols as our resident “egg inspector,” and over time, Brooks has shown Dale the ropes. When Brooks needed to be away for a while, the pantry was suddenly without its egg expert. One afternoon, Robbie spotted Dale walking in and said, “Dale, come with me. Do you know how to do eggs?” Daly humbly replied, “A little… Brooks showed me once or twice.” Robbie smiled and said, “Good. I’ve got a new job for you.” Dale has been handling the eggs ever since—and he’s truly eggscelling at it.
What Dale values most about volunteering at Ashure Ministry is the people. He talks often about the relationships he’s built and how welcomed he’s felt from day one. He appreciates the way staff members make volunteering comfortable and meaningful, and how everyone works together with a sense of shared purpose. For Dale, knowing that his time makes a real difference is deeply rewarding—and it’s something he carries with him every time he walks through the door.
Dale says he hopes to continue volunteering at Ashure Ministry for as long as he’s able. And we couldn’t be more grateful. Dale, thank you for your dedication, your flexibility, and the heart you bring to this ministry. We’re so thankful to have you as part of Ashure Ministry and the community we serve.
