A Light in the Darkness

Samy is the kind of person who’s always had a smile for others, even when life felt heavy. A retiree living on a fixed income, he spent years working hard and caring for his family—but in recent years, the weight of challenges had grown overwhelming.

When he first came to Ashure Ministry, medical bills from COVID lingered, rent was due, groceries cost more each week, and his Social Security check never seemed to stretch far enough. Life felt like running on a treadmill that wouldn’t stop.

On this first visit, he was greeted by Keely, his case manager, who didn’t start with forms or checklists. She simply listened. “I know it feels overwhelming right now,” she told him. “But we can take it one step at a time.”

She helped Samy with rent and put him on a food program which helped him see the light ahead. With Keely’s guidance and Ashure Ministry’s Crisis Assistance Coaching Program, he began learning small but practical tools to manage his limited income. Progress was slow, but steady.

His next visit was different. There was something new in Samy’s eyes: hope and accomplishment. For the first time in what felt like ages, Samy felt real relief. And now—he had a victory to celebrate. “I paid off my COVID bill!” he said, smiling brightly. “I can’t thank y’all enough. It means so much to finally put this behind me.”

By the time he left, Samy carried more than just paperwork—he carried confidence, accomplishment, and the assurance that tomorrow can surely be better.

Because of your compassion, stories like Samy’s are possible. Ashure Ministry continues to provide not only emergency help but also coaching and encouragement for long-term stability. Together, we’re giving hope, one step at a time.
