Finding Strength to Begin Again

Lisa was brand new to the area, having just moved here for a fresh start after completing rehab and leaving behind an environment that had fueled her struggle with alcohol. With two teenage children and a hopeful spirit, she was determined to rebuild—ready to trade pain for purpose and create a stable home for her family.

But just one day after moving in, everything seemed to crumble again. The job she had counted on disappeared overnight, and the sense of security she’d worked so hard to find slipped through her fingers. Defeated, she wondered aloud, “How can I keep the lights on, buy groceries, and prove to my children that things really could get better?”

When she came to Ashure Ministry, rent was due, food was scarce, and the future felt incredibly uncertain. She admitted that she was anxious to come to us for help—so anxious, in fact, that she had forgotten to take her medication that morning. What she was looking for most was stability, reassurance, and a reminder that she wasn’t alone in this season of transition.

Ashure Ministry was able to step in right away. Shasta, her case manager, worked with her landlord to clarify that, thanks to a move-in special, she was actually only half a month past due and not responsible for rent again until November—news that lifted an enormous burden. She also received food assistance, ensuring that her children had what they needed while she searched for new employment. In addition, Shasta connected Lisa with job search tools so she could begin applying right away.

As Shasta worked with Lisa, she felt led to place a small wooden cross from her desk directly into Lisa’s hand. Lisa held it close, and through tears said, “This is exactly what I needed—a powerful reminder of God’s love and the strength He gives—even the strength to begin again.”

She left Ashure Ministry with more than groceries and rent relief—she left lighter, encouraged, and more determined than ever to stay strong in her recovery and provide for her family. Her story reflects what your support makes possible: hope restored, strength renewed, and a path toward a brighter tomorrow.
