Exhaustion to Hope
Kara walked into Ashure Ministry worn down by life’s struggles. Her face carried the weight of exhaustion, but her eyes still held a quiet resolve. “I’m really trying to make it work,” she said, her voice soft, yet determined. “I have a job at the dollar store, but it’s just not enough. My rent is due tomorrow, and I don’t know what to do.” Audrey, her case manager, leaned in with a reassuring smile, “Let’s figure this out together. We are here to help.”
Kara sighed deeply, the pressure of being a single mother was catching up with her. Making ends meet felt impossible. “My cousin works at a group home, and they are hiring, but I won’t get my first paycheck for a month once I start. I just need to get through this.”
“That’s a big step forward,” Audrey said, her tone filled with encouragement. “You are doing everything you can, and that matters. We can assist with rent as you make this transition. In the meantime, have you thought about applying at that nursing home within walking distance from your place? I saw that they are hiring.” Kara’s eyes lit up, a spark of hope returning. “I didn’t see that they were hiring; I do have experience in healthcare! That could be exactly what I need.”
For the first time in a long while, Kara smiled—a real, relieved smile. Sometimes we just need to see things from someone else’s lens. “This morning, I felt like I had no options. Now, I can breathe a little.” Audrey gently placed a hand on her shoulder. “You’ve got this, Kara.” With tears in her eyes, Kara whispered, “Thank you. This is more than I could have hoped for.”
As she left, Kara didn’t just leave Ashure Ministry with rent assistance, she left with a renewed sense of purpose and hope. Thanks to your support and the generosity of others like you, Kara is now optimistic about her future.
