Soul Provider

When Estelle came to Ashure Ministry, she sought food assistance to help her family get by during a particularly challenging time. She explained to Shasta, her case manager, that she was currently the sole provider in her household. With her adult daughter’s health issues leaving her unable to work, the pressure on this grandmother to fulfill her family’s needs was overwhelming. She came to us knowing that at this point, her family desperately needed outside help.

As they talked, Shasta remarked to this precious grandmother, “You are strong and resilient, and have such a desire to meet the needs of your loved ones. To help you with that, I will be putting you on a food assistance program today.” When Estelle realized the impact of this and the security it provided, tears filled her eyes. She said, "Your food assistance program isn't just a service; it is essential in helping my family manage our daily needs and it ensures we don't have to go hungry."

As she got ready to leave Shasta’s office, she expressed her deep gratitude for our organization, sharing that she will be praying blessings over us. In turn, Shasta asked if Estelle would be okay if she returned the honor and prayed with her before she left. Afterwards, the relief and hope Estelle felt was visible as she walked away, knowing that her family had food security for the coming months. In that moment, Estelle realized that while the road ahead might still be challenging, she was not alone in her journey.
